A little something for the Burners left behind

I can’t call myself a “Burner” yet – I’m not even officially part of a camp, I’ve never even been before, and I can’t even explain what Burning Man is. But I’ve been to enough parties to know that most of those involved in this annual tradition are some of the most creative people I’ve come across and know how to throw down some sick parties that are just nonsensical fun.

So for all the Burners left behind, here’s where I’m off to tonight..

STRANDED: Presented by Baltick and Winkel, Sat 10 pm – Sun 8 am

T H E S T O R Y

Since New Year’s Eve, Winkel & Balktick have been in their ramshackle workshop and laboratory, tinkering with the time engine and readying it for a truly mythic voyage.

Time and time again, just on the verge of a breakthrough, unpredictable complications and mysterious results stymied their progress. Month after month they spent adjusting belts, gears, levers and lubricants. While planning to present their work at the Time Traveler’s Ball & Exhibition in Black Rock, Nevada, their research took an unexpected turn.

Suddenly, while having its chronofabric integrator serviced, the time machine roared to life! Rocked by a great cacophony of bells and whistles, clanking and thuds, showers of spark and clouds of smoke, they lost consciousness and slipped into a deep dreamlike state.

When they awoke, they found themselves on the shores of a most exotic locale of indeterminate era. It was a tropical island paradise bursting with bountiful fruit harvests under a sky of cotton candy clouds. They hiked through rivers of fondue, ice cream mines and swam through jello lakes and cupcake coves. When they eventually reached a port, the island’s inhabitants extended the greatest hospitality, entertaining them with all-night dancing, live music, performances, artwork, cocktails, activities, fire and of course, delicious treats!

They basked on the island for weeks, seduced by its sweet & savory charms and the kindness of its denizens. However sated dessert island life kept them, they knew in their hearts that they had to return home and share what they had seen with their colleagues. Using the island’s curious and abundant plant materials and olde-fashioned ingenuity, they constructed a device capable of spanning the space/time continuum gap for one night only.

After careful consultation of their homemade bamboo and seaweed astrolabe, they determined the perfect night for their return: the very night of the Time Traveller’s Ball! By piggybacking onto the disruptions created by this momentous occasion, they were able to bootstrap themselves into the space/time vortex and form an alchemical link with time travelers across the world and its eras.

On Saturday, August 30, get “desserted” with us at a never-before-seen private laboratory complex where this great meeting of geographies and eras is to take place. Featuring indoor and outdoor facilities, soaring ceilings and an archipelago of dance floors, lounges and dens, it is guaranteed to impress even the most seasoned time travelers.

Please arrive decked out in your finest edible couture! 10 gallon pudding hats, whipped cream dresses, fudge face masks, fruit tart broaches, cookie encrusted skirts and who could forget Carmen Miranda’s fruit basket!

Bring delicious home made treats to share with friends old and new!

So far I’m pretty damn impressed by NYC “Burners” and the DangerParty crews (from Disorient’s Compressor to the first DubaiNYC and Kostume Kult’s “FreakkShow”). This will be my first “Winkel” party, and from what I hear he has a good rep and I trust my friends’ tastes. And I am also really psyched by the fact that this all happens to be less then 5 minutes from my pad…
